If you're going for a laid back Valentines day night, the first look is really easy to do and looks cute too. The second hairstyle is a spin off of the first one which takes seconds to do, all you need are a few bobby pins and a hair accessory. If you're planning a girls day out then a date night, you can easily switch up this style to fit both occasions. These work best with medium to long length hair, but you can definitely modify it to fit your own.

Go from bad bed head to cute curly locks. |
Step 1.Of course you want to comb out any tangles and protect your hair with heat protection. I'm using TRESemme Thermal Creations: Heat tamer leave-in spray. To get the heat protection to fully sink into the hair, I would wait 10 minutes before using the curling iron. In the meantime, you can do your makeup, get dressed, brush your teeth, eat breakfast, or whatever. Don't forget to turn on your iron while you wait the 10 minutes, adjusting the heat to your specific hair type. For thicker, coarser hair: use medium to high setting, while people with fine and thin hair should use the lower setting. If your hair is hard to curl, use the medium-high setting.
Step 2. After you've put in your protection and possibly waited 10 minutes, grab a medium sized section of hair and run the curler through it, just to warm it up. You can do this by fully opening the clamp of the curler and quickly gliding the hair in between the barrel and clamp, making sure not to close the clamp. Now that your hair is heated up, do that process again, but stop half way down the hair and clamp it. With the clamp facing out, curl your hair away from your face (so if you're holding the iron, your palm should rotate outward for the right side and inward for the left). Simultaneously, slightly open the clamp and pull it to the end of the hair, then curling it half way up the strand. Next, you want to turn the whole iron upside down and put the heat resistant top part in your palm (if your iron doesn't have that, skip this step). Slowly release the clamp and let the hair fall into your palm (if you can't turn it upside down, release the hair as you normally would, but roll it up with your fingers into a circle. Turning the barrel upside down just makes it easier to gather the the hair). Keeping the shape of the curl, take a bobby pin and pin it. Do this process with the rest of your hair, with each strand facing away from your face. When you get to the other side of your side, curl it the opposite way.
Step 3. Now your hair should look pretty funky, but the longer you keep the bobby pins in, the curlier and longer lasting they will be. Once fairly cool, spray hair spray on the ends and take out the bobby pins. I'm using Aussie: Aussome volume. If you have bangs, curl them away from your face also. The final result should look something like this. Now, you can keep your hair like this and call it a day, or you can make it more formal with the next optional step.
Step 4. To achieve this sophisticated look, you first need to tease the top section of your hair and lightly hairspray it. Once you've done that, gather the section at the crown of your hair and the sides and pull it back to meet at the back of your head. You can either pin your bangs back also or leave them out. Use two bobby pins and cross them to hold the sections of hair in place. This should create a half up- half down hairstyle. Place an accessory of your choice on top of the bobby pins and there you go! A quick and easy way to change your look from casual to classy.
