Become a Beach Babe

Here in the vast tundra of Minnesota, getting anything other than snowy weather is a blessing. Hearing that a few friends and I are going to Wisconsin Dells for Spring Break is a nice break from plain old Rochester. Although still cold, the fact that everyone's minds and spirits will be somewhere in Florida is enough for me to get by the harsh winter we've had. In order to feel like I'm at the beach, I'm going to need to bring some essentials to the water park. This also applies going anywhere sunny during spring break so slap on the sunscreen and slide into your slippers because spring break 2014 is just around the corner!

What to Pack

  1. Every swimsuit that you own. You're practically going to be living in the water (because for the past 6 months you've only seen it frozen) so packing the cutest suits to wear is a must. Both of mine are from Gilly Hicks.
  2. Bandeau + Crop Top combo. After you're done swimming and you decide to go out and eat, a simple bandeau and crop top (preferably loose) is easy to just slip on and pair with jean shorts to head right out the door. I know after I go swimming, I don't like having tight fitting clothes on my body especially if I haven't showered yet, so having a few of these outfits is perfect for a day by the pool. I got the green crop at Express and the purple bandeau at American Eagle.
  3. Dresses; one day and one night one. The light coral one with straps in the upper right corner is a more casual dress, which I would wear with tan belt and flip flops if I were to go out shopping or walk around town during the day. It's loose and comfy yet cute enough to get many compliments. The light pink and white striped dress in the lower left corner is suited for more dressier occasions. I would wear this to a dinner with my family or significant other. You could  pair it with the nude heels, or you could wear white sandals to make it more comfy. The light coral dress is from Forever 21 and the light pink striped one is from Gilly Hicks.
  4. High waist shorts. Solid color high waist shorts is essential if you're going to be pack crop tops. Easily dressed up or down, a pair of dark solid colored shorts is a must. My black ones are from H&M.
  5. Hats. It can be any style, and shape, any color, but sometimes sunscreen just isn't enough to protect the sun's harmful rays. This is when a hat comes into play, which is stylish and useful at the same time. I got my fedora hat at H&M.
  6. SPF Lip balm. It's obvious that we have to protect our skin with sunscreen, but we often forget the skin on our lips. Getting a lip balm that has SPF will easily take care of it.
  7. Makeup. If you're not planning on getting in the water, and are just going to be chilling pool side, why not enhance your tan with a sun kissed glow? Bronzer can do wonders to give your face that beachy look. Waterproof mascara is also a good product if you still want to look cute for the guys, but don't want to be sweating off your mascara. With most waterproof products, you can go for a dive without completely ruining your makeup. Invest in high quality waterproof makeup during this time and you won't have to worry about looking like a sloppy mess when your get out of the water ever again!
